In 2006, the Coalition mobilized in ten strategically targeted states where important links were forged with key activist organizations.
We engaged the public at unofficial FCC hearings aimed at raising public awareness around pending FCC policy, and we increased turnout at official FCC hearings. Our leaders also passed city council resolutions in eight cities in support of our Bill of Media Rights, conducted press conferences, met with legislators in their districts, and gathered new allies.
Our public education campaign hit a new high on October 19, 2006, when MDC released provocative reports in a dozen states, highlighting the harm that media consolidation inflicts on specific local communities in those states. This message was amplified with simultaneous local press conferences organized by Coalition partners across the country, followed by a well-attended national telephone press conference in Washington, DC.
